About Planetary Orbital Years
A single "year" on any celestial body is determined by the time it takes to complete one full revolution or orbit around the Sun. Because the planets in our Solar System are located at varying distances from the Sun, their orbital speeds and path lengths differ dramatically.
Orbital Periods Relative to Earth
- Inner Planets (Mercury & Venus): Closer to the Sun, completing their orbits much faster than Earth (88 Earth days for Mercury, 225 Earth days for Venus). On these worlds, you are significantly older in planetary years!
- Outer Planets (Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune): Positioned much farther out, taking anywhere from 12 to 165 Earth years to orbit the Sun once. On these giant worlds, most humans haven't even celebrated their first birthday!
